Who built this, and why

Last updated 12 September 2026

I'm Ahmet, an indie developer in Türkiye. My first app taught people to use their voice. The women around me didn't need another app telling them to do more — they needed one that asks how they are and answers with something small and true. I built Serai with them, not for them.

That distinction matters to how this is written. I am the builder, not an authority on anybody's experience but my own. The women who tested Serai shaped the check-in, cut most of the copy in half and vetoed every sentence that sounded like a motivational poster. Where you read something on this site that sounds like it came from lived experience rather than from a developer, it did.

What Serai is trying to be

An app for the bad day first. Most habit apps are designed around the good day and then punish the other kind: a counter resets, a badge turns red, and the day you most needed a small kind thing becomes the day the app tells you that you failed. Serai has no consecutive-day counter for that reason. Rest days count. Blank days stay blank.

And an app that says what it does not know. Every exercise carries at least one source and a line about what the research does not show. The AI coach says it is an AI, everywhere, permanently. If that makes a claim sound smaller, the claim was too big.

Designed for women, and open to everyone

Serai is designed for women. The language, the examples, the exercise choices and the research we leaned on all start there, and that focus is the reason the app feels specific rather than generic. It is not a wall. Nothing in the app asks or checks your gender, and there is no part of it that only works if you are a woman. Trans and non-binary users are welcome here without an asterisk: if this tone is for you, it's for you.

What we deliberately avoid: gender essentialism of any kind, cycles as destiny, bodies to compare yourself against, and the whole vocabulary of optimisation. There are no before-and-after images anywhere in Serai, and there never will be.

How it is made

Serai is a native iOS app written by one person. The daily engine runs entirely offline on your phone — it does not need a server to decide what to suggest. The optional coach runs through a small Cloudflare Worker we operate, which forwards your message to an AI provider and keeps nothing. The exercise catalog, the evidence notes and this website are generated from the same files, so the app and the site can never quietly disagree.
